Light Alarm Clock
Using a Light Alarm Clock to Gently Wake Up Each Day
Not everyone is happy with the idea of being woken up every day of their working life to the
jarring beep from the alarm clock and for some even being woken up to the sound of music just does not make it any
better. Some of us just do not respond well to being jolted from a sound sleep no matter what sound is used to wake
us up. With this in mind there has to be an alternative that can bring us out our slumbers in a more natural
way.
Enter the light alarm clock also known as a dawn simulator clock, these clocks are designed to
gradually increase the light in your bedroom to simulate the rising sun and gently wake you up. By simulating the
dawn there is no sound only a gradual increase in light level much like the sun coming up in the morning. By the
time it reaches full intensity you should be gently woken up instead of jarred from a sound sleep, bringing you a
peaceful, refreshing start to the day.
The light alarm clock can be especially useful for someone who has been diagnosed with Season
Affective Disorder or SAD. People who are affected by this tend to suffer from emotional depression in the winter
months when they have to wake up every day to a dark world. By using this type of alarm clock also called a “Dawn
Simulator” the person who suffers from SAD can experience some relief as the light level gradually increases in
their bedroom allowing their body to wake up naturally to the light from the “sun”.
As with any other type of alarm clock there are many different styles of light alarm clocks that
offer a host of extra features. To make sure that you are actually awake most of them do have a backup beeping
alarm that you can set to go off at the time you need to be up by so you are not late for work. Many of the these
clocks also feature a function whereby the light can be programmed to simulate sundown and over a period of half an
hour the light level will decrease to zero relaxing your body and calming your mind allowing you to fall gently
asleep each night.
Other varieties of these sunrise clocks come with built in radios that allow you to listen to
music while you drift off to sleep and can be used as an alarm to supplement the light alarm in the morning if you
would like to be woken up to both music and light. One of most unusual but unique lights uses the heat from the
light bulb to heat an aromatherapy pad containing your choice of oils up so that you wake to your favorite scent
each morning.
These light clocks are the perfect answer for someone who needs to get up every morning but
dreads being rudely pulled out of their slumber by a shrieking alarm clock. Of course to make sure that you are
actually awake you can use the built in radio or back up beeper alarm built into most of them.
