Clock Radios Have Come a Long Way

The clock radios dates back to long before the  advent of the digital clock and was designed as a way for people to wake up to something other than an annoying bell or buzzer. One of the other advantages to a clock radio is that it allows a person to listen to music while in their bedroom and most especially while they are going to sleep. The clock radio has continued to advance as the style of time display has changed from mechanical hands to the LED and LCD clocks of today and along with it how we receive the music.

In the 1980s a new way to broadcast radio stations was created and has been available in several countries around the world. This system known as Digital Audio Broadcasting or DAB is currently being used in many European countries to provide more stations to choose from with a much stronger clearer signal. Units like the Pure Siesta DAB clock radio are designed to take advantage of the benefits offered by DAB broadcasting. The Siesta allows you to select your radio stations by name; you can then see the news in flowing digital displays or see what track is playing. Radios by Pure are designed to be environmentally friendly and use less than 1W of power in standby mode.

One of the leading manufacturers of the clock radio is Sony; they have been at the forefront of clock radios for half a century continuously striving to bring new technology to the market. Sony has taken the clock radio out of the bedroom and created a music system for any room in the house. While still concentrating on the alarm clock radio you can now find clock radios for use in the kitchen and even the shower. Their newest offering is a clock radio that also includes a spy camera for keeping an eye on the nanny or babysitter. This motion activated camera records everything on a built in DVR so that you can make sure your nanny is not mistreating your children.

The Philips Company has been in the business of creating radios, TVs and other electronic devices for decades so it is no surprise that they offer a line of clock radios to suit every need. From simple digital alarm clock radios for your bedroom to several different styles designed with a dock for your IPod. The latest Philips clock radio offers something a little more unique in the digital clock world. Not only does it feature a full FM radio and digital clock but now you can upload your personal choice of music from your PC or a flash drive. It has a 7" video display that you can use to show pictures of your family or anything else you would like to wake up to.

The world of clock radios is changing rapidly, no longer are they just for the bedroom, many of the clock radios available today offer the ability to play CDs, MP3s and several other music formats. You can listen to music with the clarity offered by many home entertainment systems in any room of your home or at the office.
